Our Board of Directors is comprised of the following dedicated, experienced, and well-respected members of the Cayman Islands financial services industry. Their broad range of skills and experience provides our association with the strong and capable leadership our industry needs to continue to prosper in the ever changing landscape of global finance.

 

Richard Coles - Chairman

Mr. Coles is an experienced lawyer both in England and in the Cayman Islands, being a Solicitor admitted in England, a Cayman Islands Attorney-at-law and Notary Public. He was for 6 years the Attorney General for the Cayman Islands, a Member of the Cabinet and Legislative Assembly and a Government Minister having been appointed to that position on the recommendation of the British Government. He was also acting Governor of the Cayman Islands. Prior to that appointment he was the founding partner of a substantial firm of solicitors with offices in England. He has now reverted to private practice in Grand Cayman and is a non-executive director of a number of Mutual Funds, Structured Finance Vehicles and Investment and Financial Sector companies. Mr. Coles studied at the College of Law in London and is a Fellow of the Caribbean Law Institute. He is a member of the Law Society of England, the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, and the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in London. He also has the distinction of being a Freeman of the City of London.

Roy McTaggart

Roy McTaggart, CPA is the Managing Partner at KPMG and has over 25 years experience providing assurance services to the hedge fund, captive insurance and offshore banking industries.  Mr. McTaggart also acts as the Risk Management Partner with the responsibility for the professional risk management process for the Cayman and British Virgin Islands offices.

Mr. McTaggart is a member of the Florida and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants; is council member of the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants; and is a member of the Financial Services Council, an advisory group to the Cayman Islands Government.


Peter Cockhill

Peter is the Managing Partner of the Cayman legal practice and co-head of Ogier’s global Investment Funds team. He is a director of Cayman Finance, and is a director of the global board of Hedge Funds Care. His principal areas of practice are investment funds, private equity, corporate and commercial, and restructuring
and insolvency.

Ogier has been at the forefront of the development of offshore financial markets for more than fifty years. In recognition of this expertise, we have received many coveted industry awards. We are winners of the Chambers Europe Awards 2010,
three-time winners of the Alpha Awards’ “Top Offshore Law Firm”, and in 2009 received “Best Offshore Law Firm” (HFM Week Service Provider Award), “International Law Firm of the Year” (Citywealth Magic Circle Awards), “Offshore
Private Funds Law Firm of the Year” (ACQ Global Awards), European Legal Services Provider” (ICFA) and IFC Legal Team of the Year (STEP Private Client Awards). To round out 2009, Ogier was named “Offshore Law Firm of the Year” for the second year in a row at the British Legal Awards in December 2009.

Nick Freeland

Mr. Freeland is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He is currently Senior Partner of the Cayman Islands firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Mr. Freeland has a wealth of international banking, trust and investment management expertise, having served many high profile, prestigious banking and mutual fund clients in varying capacities in both the Bahamas and Grand Cayman offices.
Mr. Freeland is a former President of the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants and former member of the Council of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange. He is a former President of the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman.

Gonzalo Jalles

Gonzalo E Jalles, Argentine, was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in the Cayman Islands in January, 2007. Mr. Jalles is also a director of four companies in Cayman, including the HSBC main legal entity and is the Vice President of the Cayman Islands Bankers Association.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Jalles was Head of HSBC Investments (Bermuda) since August 2004 and was a director for several investment funds while in Bermuda. Mr. Jalles originally joined HSBC in February 2000 as a Manager of the HSBC public pension fund in Argentina. Later he was appointed Chief Investment Officer of Asset Management in Argentina before locating to London to assume a global management role. Prior to joining HSBC, he worked at Santander Investments, developing the firm’s asset management business for over five years and creating the second largest asset manager in Argentina.
Mr. Jalles has a degree in economics and a Masters degree in Finance. He also holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Mark Lewis

Mark Lewis is Managing Partner - Clients and Senior Investment Funds at Walkers. He has in excess of 25 years of post qualification experience, the last 14 of which have been with Walkers in the Cayman Islands, specialising in all aspects of mainstream corporate work, particulary hedge funds.

Mark is founding board member of the Cayman Islands branch of Hedge Funds Care, and was elected Chairman of the Executive Committee of AIMA Cayman in September 2008. He is also a member of the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority's E-Reporting Working Group.

Conor O'Dea

Mr. O’Dea is the Managing Director of Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Limited. He has a strong background in Audit having worked with a large international accounting firm prior to joining Butterfield as their Financial Controller in 1989.
Conor is a past president of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, and the C.I. Bankers’ Association. He also served on the C.I. Government National Advisory Council from 2002-2005.

David Roberts - Treasurer

Mr. Roberts is the Treasurer for Cayman Finance. He is Managing Director of Cayman Management Ltd., the longest established pure management office in the Cayman Islands. Mr. Roberts is representing the Cayman Islands Managers Association on the Cayman Finance board.

director: dan scott

Dan Scott

Dan is the regional managing partner and asset management sector leader for the Bahamas, Bermuda and Cayman Islands Sub-Area of Ernst & Young's Financial Services Office. He is also a member of the Ernst & Young Global Hedge Fund Steering Commitee, which provides strategic direction to the global practice. Dan has been with Ernst & Young for more than 25 years and has extensive asset management experience. He serves several multinational asset management clients. Among his area of focus are audit and advisory services, including structuring and servicing complex global and offshore funds.

Dan received a B.S. in accounting from the University of Tampa. He is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and is currently registered and licensed as a CPA in the State of Florida. Dan is currently a Board Member of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange and also a Member of the Cayman Islands National Advisory Council. He is a past President of the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants (CISPA).

Ian Wight

Mr. Wight is the Managing Partner of Deloitte in the Cayman Islands with overall responsibility for operations across four primary businesses; Audit, Tax, Consulting, and Financial Advisory.  He has more than 20 years of experience and is the senior partner operating in the firm’s Financial Advisory Services group.  Ian was the Deputy Chairman of Deloitte’s Offshore Working Group and previously served on the LACRO development board.
Ian is also a member of the Americas Services Council and the Americas Executive Management Committee.

 

Henry Smith

Henry is Global Managing Partner of Maples and Calder worldwide. Henry has extensive experience in all aspects of offshore finance transactions, focusing on private equity funds, hedge funds, CLO/CDOs and other structured finance transactions.  Henry joined Maples and Calder in 1994 and was made partner in 1999. Henry previously worked for Freshfields in London, New York and Tokyo. Henry is named as a leading private funds lawyer in The International Who's Who of Private Funds Lawyers 2011, the PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook 2011 and by the 2010 edition of Chambers Global.
