As the Cayman Islands plays host to a weekend of world class cycling, Walkers is delighted to be involved as a Lead Sponsor of the first annual Cayman Invitational Cycling Event.

The Cayman Invitational is scheduled to take place during this year's Pirates Week Festival, with the first race on Saturday 8th November and a number of other races happening over the course of the weekend.

An avid cyclist himself, Walkers global managing partner Grant Stein was pleased to hand over a sponsorship cheque for CI$2,000 to the Cayman Islands Cycling Association on behalf of the firm. "With some world class professionals and top amateurs coming to race in Cayman from the US and Europe, we anticipate a truly spectacular weekend of racing, making a great family event for spectators," he said. "Walkers is delighted to support the first Cayman Invitational Cycling Weekend and we encourage everyone to take to the streets and join in the excitement."

The ten mile time trial in South Sound starts at 7.00am on Saturday 8th November and will see Cayman's amateur riders up against some of the world's best in a race against the clock. Later that day at 12:45pm will be the Pirates Landing Criterium Bike Race, where speeds on the downtown circuit will approach 30 miles per hour. "This will be a fast and tactical event with all the colour, speed and excitement of the Tour de France," said Steve Evans, vice president of the Cayman Islands Cycling Association. "The corners might be popular for spectators hoping for high speed thrills. Bring your camera with a fast shutter."

On the Sunday morning at 9:30am the circuit race, which starts and ends at Governor's Square, will provide a test of speed and endurance for around 1.5 hours around the 3.5 mile course. The following day, starting at 7.00am, is the 75 Mile Road Race, with the start and finish line at Public Beach on Seven Mile Beach. The 'Loop the Island' race passes through all of the districts and all riders, regardless of age or ability, are welcomed to join in the first 10 to 12 miles which will be at a nice easy 'procession pace'.

The Cayman Islands Cycling Association said that the best viewing opportunities will be from 12:30pm till 1:30pm on Saturday 8th November in central George Town and from 9:30 am to 11:00am on Sunday 9th November at Governor's Square Shopping Centre.
