The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry (CISR), a division of the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands (MACI), is launching an initiative to increase ship registrations from Asia.

The CISR has strengthened its Asian operations with the addition of two new regional representatives to attract Asian ship owners and builders.

Martin Chu, Business and Technical Consultant for the Far East Region, represents the CISR in Hong Kong and Evelyn Soon is the CISR representative in Singapore.

Japan is also a country of focus, with a staff contingent from the CISR currently in Tokyo for a series of presentations to business leaders in the Asian shipping industry.

The Cayman Islands-based group includes Alfred Powery, Divisional Director of Registration; Kenrick Ebanks, Divisional Director of Finance & IT; and Exie Tomlinson-Panton, Head of Business Development and Client Relationships.

While in Tokyo, the group will be meeting with the CISR representative in Japan, Mr Yoshinori Uno. Employed with the CISR for the past three years, Mr Uno has been instrumental in attracting a number of very large Japanese vessels to join the Cayman Islands Shipping Register.

Recent Japanese ships registered with the CISR include the Aquamarine Ace, a 200-metre ship designed as a 6,400-unit pure car/truck carrier (PCTC) and built for Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) in Japan. The Aquamarine Ace was joined on the Cayman Islands Shipping Register by two of its sister ships, the Amethyst Ace and Salvia Ace.

Also in Japan for the presentations are Greg Evans, Divisional Director – Safety, Survey & Inspection from the CISR’s European Regional Office in Southampton, UK, and Pete Pylant, Florida-based CISR Advisor - Business Development and Overseas Operations.

Led by CEO A. Joel Walton, the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands has shown significant growth in the past year, especially in the Asian market.

With the addition of the Singapore and Hong Kong representatives, the CISR now boasts a presence in nine locations.

CISR offices include the Grand Cayman Headquarters and the European Regional Office in Southampton, UK as well as offices in London, Ft. Lauderdale, Athens, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore. A Mediterranean office, established earlier this year, is currently being relocated.

The historic Cayman Islands Shipping Register was officially established in 1903.
