A new era of regulatory oversight was ushered in at the start of 2007 when the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants (CISPA) took on the responsibility of licensing accounting practitioners in the Cayman Islands.

Recently that new responsibility, enumerated in The Public Accountants Law and associated Regulations, came to fruition as CISPA representatives signed the first license certificates for members to engage in public practice from or within the Cayman Islands.

“This is a historic moment not just for our organisation but for the entire financial regime in the Cayman Islands,” said CISPA President Mike Mannisto. “It reflects the confidence Government has in CISPA as well as the partnership that has long existed between Cayman’s private and public sectors.”

For the last several months CISPA’s Membership and Licensing Committee, chaired by Ernst & Young Partner Rohan Small, has been reviewing and approving License Application Forms.

Small reminds public practitioners that they need to be issued a CISPA License to practice public accounting in the Cayman Islands. If they have not already submitted their License Application Form, they need to do so immediately. Once they receive their 2007 License, they will then need to submit their renewal documentation in order to be issued their 2008 License.

For more information, practitioners should contact Mike Mannisto or Rohan Small at 345-949-8444.
