The International Tax Planning Association (ITPA) will be hosting a conference at the Ritz-Carlton on the 6th-8th December, the first of its kind to be held in the Cayman Islands. Members of the ITPA will be coming from Anguilla, Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Canada, Hong Kong, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, St. Lucia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
From the local speakers – Timothy Ridley, Nicholas Butcher, Justin Appleyard and Andrew Miller, visitors and local attendees are to have an overview of the specially attractive offshore facilities on offer.
Marshall Langer a well-known lecturer and international tax specialist will discuss how the IRS gets information from Caribbean jurisdictions, and Milton Grundy, the President of the Association, will conclude the meeting with a talk on tax-saving opportunities and tax pitfalls for the Cayman company or trust engaged in making investments or doing business abroad.
Tim Ridley former chairman of the CIMA,will be speaking on a range of topics including Constitutional advancement and the UK-Cayman relationship, international initiatives and implications for Cayman, and domestic imperatives and initiatives.
“At the meeting here in December 2009, overseas delegates will be from countries such as Belgium, Hong Kong, Hungary, Malta and the Netherlands, as well as Canada, the UK, US and Switzerland,” Mr Ridley said
“This presents a great opportunity for the Cayman Islands to showcase its strengths as a financial services centre, particularly to our European clients and their advisors. And for Cayman based professionals to learn, contribute and network.”
Mr Ridley added that the ITPA under the Presidency of Milton Grundy will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2010. Its focus, as the name suggests, is on serious and innovative legal tax planning in the global context.
“The worldwide membership is impressive in its expertise. Members meet in various venues around the world every quarter to consider topical issues in depth over two days of focused proceedings. In the first half of 2010, meetings will be in Geneva and Venice,” he noted.
