The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) launched their new accounting programme and discussed plans to support accounting students at their meetings held on 29 and 30 March, at the Family Life Centre on Walkers Road and at Paddington Place in George Town.

he meeting on 29 March saw the initiation of the ACCA programme, and was attended by Chief Officer of the Ministry of Education, Angela Martins, who later spoke about the significance of the ACCA.
"The presence of ACCA in the jurisdiction is another exciting development option for Caymanians. ACCA provides the opportunity for professional designations in the accounting field," she said.
"This is particularly important because it means you don't have to travel overseas; it is another opportunity to obtain a professional designation in accounting right here at home. The ACCA basic entry level is a programme called Certificate of Accounting Technician (CAT), and I believe that is a wonderful entry point for individuals. The entry level for the ACCA programme qualifications gives people globally recognised standards at the various levels in the accounting profession," said Ms Martins.
Mike Mannisto, President of the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants (CISPA) also attended the meeting.
Esther Le Gendre, Head of Corporate Development ACCA Caribbean explained that during the meeting on 29 March, the ACCA also presented the University College Registration Certificate to Innovative Management and Professional Training Institute (IMPT).
On Friday, 30 March, ACCA's Cayman Members met together to discuss plans for supporting and mentoring ACCA students, and also to work out a schedule of continuing professional development opportunities for its membership, and for the benefit of other accounting professionals.
"In this, the ACCA will work with the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants (CISPA) which is the authority for the regulation of the accounting practice in Cayman Islands," Ms Le Gendre explained.
"During the meeting on 30 March, it was also decided that ACCA members would form an Education Committee and a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee, and play an advisory role to the ACCA's Caribbean office on issues relevant to its Cayman members," Ms Le Gendre said.
