Offshore law firm Appleby recently announced the promotion of Simon Raftopoulos and Graeme Halkerston to partnership in their Cayman office.

Appleby said that globally the firm has promoted four associates to partnership and five to the position of Counsel. The Group now has 59 partners and 18 counsel worldwide and over 160 lawyers. Appleby’s new partners strengthen the firm’s strong global Corporate and Commercial and Litigation and Insolvency practice groups.

Simon Raftopoulos joined Appleby in 2006 from one of the leading and largest Irish law firms, Matheson Ormsby Prentice Solicitors, where he was a member of their Banking and Financial Services Group. At Appleby, Simon is a member of the Banking and Asset Finance Team within the Corporate and Commercial practice group. He specialises in advising on structured finance, acquisition finance, general banking and asset financing.

Graeme Halkerston has over twelve years of litigation and insolvency experience. He joined Appleby in 2007 and is a member of the Litigation and Insolvency Practice Group and the Fund Disputes team. He advises on a wide range of commercial and banking law matters, including specifically cases involving international elements. He has acted in many of the recent leading commercial and funds disputes in Cayman. Graeme joined Appleby from Chambers of Lord Grabiner QC at One Essex Court, one of the “magic circle” London commercial sets where he was a barrister.

Huw Moses, Managing Partner of the Cayman office stated, “The appointment of our new partners and counsel spans across four or our eight global offices. Our strategic goal for 2009 will be to continue the work of developing the Appleby Group’s offering of first class offshore legal, fiduciary and administration services to our clients. No other offshore firm provides the broad footprint that Appleby offers and these new appointments reflect our commitment to further developing our leadership role.”
