Appleby-sponsored A Level students Anthony Hurlston and Zachary Powery are the first to achieve ‘A’ passes in the AS Law course. Graduates of John Gray High School, Anthony and Zachary enrolled in the AS and A Level programme at St. Ignatius Catholic School last academic year and are now in the second year of the programme. The law course, exclusively sponsored by Appleby, endeavours to provide participating students with a thorough understanding of how law is created, administered and changed, including how to analyse problematic situations and apply appropriate legal rules and principles.
During the summer, Anthony had the opportunity to work under the leadership of Appleby’s Litigation and Insolvency Partner, Nicolas Joseph, where he applied some of those learned principles. Speaking to Anthony’s contribution during his internship, Nick said, “It has been a pleasure to guide Anthony’s work experience this summer and to challenge him in ways that complement his classroom learning. I hope that one day he will be back in our office as an articled clerk working fervently in preparation for a successful career in law.”
To celebrate and congratulate Anthony and Zachary on their achievement, Appleby awarded each of the young men with a cash prize at a short presentation ceremony which was attended by Partner Richard Addlestone of Appleby (Cayman) Ltd., the Honourable Minister for Education Rolston Anglin, St Ignatius Head of Secondary Peter Embleton and Course Lecturer Deborah Barker.
Partner Richard Addlestone commented on the course’s first year results saying, “This is the first time in history the law course has ever had a student awarded an ‘A’ pass and to have two in the same year is fantastic. I wish both of them, and all of the other students on the course, every success in their ongoing studies. Keep up the good work!”
